Angela's artistic drive for community and professional development led her to co-create the Market Collective in June 2008.
Angela has trained as a shoemaker in Italy, a woodworker in B.C., and most importantly, became a mother to a beautiful daughter in 2014. She started her first business (a teahouse) at the age of 22, and became a recipient of Calgary's Top 40 Under 40 at the age of 29. She has a BA in Communication and Culture from the University of Calgary with Minors in Psychology and Indigenous Studies. Angela continually strives to develop herself through education, experience and self-knowledge. She follows her own path of artistic entrepreneurship, and aims to support others along the way.
Angel Guerra is the co-founder of Market Collective. She is passionate about community building through the arts, loves 5-cent candies and a good laugh, and enjoys 2-wheelin’ around. She also digs diggin' in the dirt.
Angel studied at the University of Calgary and completed a B.A in Communications, as well as the Masters of Teaching program. Through her education and experience, she combines her love for people, education, live music, art, accessible public space and entrepreneurship to contribute to the Market Collective.
Brendan Kane is a music and visual art producer based in Canada. He works to create and document experiences which connect modern incarnations of bohemianism to authentic natural environments. Kane studied both journalism and carpentry prior to spearheading Welcome to the West, an online video project founded in 2009. The West series has published over 100 live session recordings and continues to curate visually stimulating concerts in Alberta and beyond. Kane loves swimming in rivers, developing new catchphrases, and building things.
Christine Masuda is a designer, crafter and dreamer based in Calgary currently working as the Communications Coordinator at Market Collective. Besides working at Market Collective and running the social media for local furniture company Room B Design, she’s writing letters, brainstorming on the C-train, and practicing the latest hobby she’s picked up from YouTube.
With a lifelong interest in music and an aptitude for creative problem solving and all things technical, Eric decided to pursue an education in music production in Montreal in late 2011. Ever since returning to Calgary the following year, he has used his newfound skills to find a niche in which he can help to foster Calgary's music and art communities. He became involved with Market Collective by filling in occasionally for the previous technical director, Ben Nixon. He has been ecstatic to lend his skills to the organization ever since.
Jenn Kitagawa is a graphic designer and artist based out of Toronto. Her work shows the thinning of the line that has separated illustration and design by paring it down to basics such as pattern, shape and colour. After graduating with a Bachelors of Design from ACAD, she moved to New York where she interned for the visual artist Mike Perry and Nylon Magazine.
Josh began as a faithful volunteer for Market Collective and the talented, welcoming arts community of Calgary has kept her coming back time and again. As Market Collective's volunteer coordinator, Josh has had the pleasure of welcoming new individuals to the MC family and has learned how to cultivate the art of giving back. Outside of MC, Josh is also a full-time registered nurse, helping newborns and families get a healthy start in life. In her spare time, Josh loves to travel and chase the sun with her loyal pup Sascha.
